BEIJING, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:

1. Chinese basketball rising star Yang announces entry into NBA Draft 2025

China's teenage center Yang Hansen announced his decision to enter the NBA Draft 2025 on April 26.

During the 2024-2025 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) regular season, Yang averaged 16.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, three assists and one steal per game, with an impressive average of 2.6 blocks, ranking him first in the league. He was named in the CBA All-Star starting lineup and the All-CBA Chinese Player First Team.

At the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers in February 2024, Yang made an impact in his senior national team debut, scoring 13 points and providing four assists in his 19-minute appearance that contributed to China's 80-49 victory over Mongolia.

2. Liu Guoliang resigns as president of Chinese Table Tennis Association

Liu Guoliang has resigned as president of the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA), with current CTTA vice president Wang Liqin elected the organization's new chief on April 23.

During Liu's tenure as the CTTA president, China claimed nine of 10 Olympic gold medals in table tennis at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.

Wang, 46, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time World Championships singles winner. Retiring from the national team in 2013, he has served as CTTA vice president since 2018.

3. China's Sun retains crown at ITTF World Cup

China's world No. 1 Sun Yingsha successfully defended her title, and Brazil's Hugo Calderano became the first Brazilian paddler to win the men's singles gold at the 2025 ITTF Men's and Women's World Cup in Macao on April 20.

Sun, who first won the title at the ITTF World Cup Macao 2024, defeated her teammate Kuai Man 4-0, while Calderano came back to defeat China's Lin Shidong 4-1.

4. Chinese para swimmer Jiang wins Laureus Award

Chinese Paralympic swimmer Jiang Yuyan was named the Laureus Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability Award in Madrid on April 21.

Jiang, who lost her right arm and right leg in a childhood accident, won seven gold medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

5. Ding Junhui wins first Snooker World Championship match in five years

China's Ding Junhui saw off debutant Zak Surety 10-7 on April 22 to reach the second round at the World Snooker Championship for the first time in five years.

Ding, 38, opened the match 4-0 and set up a 6-3 lead before the second session. Although world No. 73 Surety launched a strong comeback to win three of four frames since the match's resumption, 10th seed Ding held his nerve to take the win. ■
