Gripen silk design reflects Thailand’s courage and cultural pride
The Thai Air Force has praised an initiative featuring a Thai fabric, woven with a Gripen jet design, saying it blends strength and beauty while symbolising the unity of the Thai people.
On its official Facebook page, the Air Force said the concept was inspired by its Gripen fighter jets, defenders of the skies over Thailand, and has brought them to life through the renowned Surin Thai silk.
“The initiative merges the strength of warriors with the beauty of Thai wisdom. Here, art and faith are united, not only reflecting the elegance of Thai culture, but also proclaiming the courage and fighting spirit of Thailand,” the Air Force stated.
The creation, it said, serves as a reminder that Thailand not only possesses the strength to defend its territory, but also preserves its valuable cultural heritage. This sends a clear message to the world that we are Thailand, guardians of our heritage, who will never be subdued.
The designer of the Gripen-patterned fabric wrote on Pimpatara Palaiyang Facebook page that the idea was inspired by the widespread attention given to the RTAF’s Gripen jets in recent months.
The design aims to convey the dual themes of defending sovereignty and preserving traditional Thai attire, while also offering moral support to frontline military and civilians.
Gripen jets have become a highly discussed topic in Thailand, especially since they were deployed in defending Thai territory during the recent clashes between Thailand and Cambodia.
