Thai Envoy Rebuts Cambodia Over Border Issue at UN

NEW YORK, July 31 (TNA) – Thailand’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Cherdchai Chaivaivid, countered Cambodia’s envoy for raising their border dispute at the UN General Assembly.

While the high-level meeting focused on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Cambodian Ambassador Chhea Keo deviated from the agenda to address the Thai-Cambodian border.

Ambassador Cherdchai refuted Cambodia’s claims, clarifying facts about Cambodia’s violation of a ceasefire agreement. He expressed regret that an irrelevant issue was introduced by Thailand’s neighbor country at a forum dedicated to promoting peace in the Middle East.

Cherdchai stated Thailand aimed not to bring bilateral issues to the forum, but to clarify facts. He highlighted a July 28, 2025, ceasefire agreement, facilitated by Malaysia. However, after the ceasefire on July 29, he noted that “our neighbour resumed cross-border fire and incursions into Thai territory, in grave violation of the agreement”.

Thailand urged strict adherence to the ceasefire, reaffirmed its commitment to bilateral resolution, and called for avoiding false or misleading information and engaging with good intentions. -819 (TNA)
