Roadside IED kills soldier, injures two in Narathiwat
A non-commissioned army officer was killed and two others were injured when the pickup truck they were travelling in was struck by a roadside IED in Waeng district of Narathiwat province today.
The dead officer has been identified as Komkrit Riththapai, while the injured are Adisorn Kamboonchuey and Pongsakorn Saenboonmee.
Police said that insurgents had planted an improvised explosive device (IED), made from an LPG tank filled with explosives, beneath the road surface in Ban Mai Fard village and detonated it remotely as the vehicle reached the spot.
The force of the powerful explosion flipped the truck over and left a large crater in the road. Komkrit died at the scene, while the other two officers sustained serious injuries.
When reinforcements arrived at the scene, they rushed the dead and injured to Su-ngai Kolok District Hospital.
