Minor tremor in Myanmar, felt by people in Chiang Rai province today
A minor earthquake in Myanmar was reported at 3.06pm this afternoon and was felt by many people in the Muang, Mae Sai and Mae Lao districts of Thailand’s Chiang Rai province.
According to an initial report from the Meteorological Department, the earthquake measured at 5.2 on the Richter scale and was detected at a depth of about 10 kilometre underground in Myanmar, about 132km northeast of Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai.
People living in Wiang sub-district of Muang district, Pa Kor Dam sub-district of Mae Lao district and Mae Sai sub-district reported that they heard their house ceilings creaking and tables shaking slightly, but no serious damage was reported.
