Uthai Thani teacher injured after student attacks her over maths test score

Police in Uthai Thani province will question a 17-year-old male student today, who allegedly punched and kicked his female teacher repeatedly because he was dissatisfied that he had failed to get full scores in a mid-term mathematics exam.

His alleged assault, which left his teacher covered in bruises and suffering broken ribs, came to light after CCTV footage went viral.

The teacher received medical treatment, alerted police and sought legal action against the student. It is reported that the student’s parents have already withdrawn him from the school.

The assault occurred on August 5, in front of a class, when the student approached the teacher to ask about his scores. The teacher replied that he had scored 18 out of 20, so the student asked to see his answer sheet.

The teacher explained that he did not get a full score because he was required to show his calculation method, but his answer sheet only contained the answers.

The teacher told him that he could seek the opinions of other teachers, which he did. He came back saying other teachers told him that it depended on each teacher’s opinion.

The student then allegedly started punching and kicking the teacher, to the horror of the other students. The clip also shows him hitting the teacher with a chair.

The teacher subsequently filed a complaint at the Nong Chang police station on August 8th, after receiving treatment for her injuries, which included a bruised eye and swelling on the left side of her head.

After the incident, the student’s parents contacted the teacher to apologise for their son’s behaviour.

Some news reports claim that the boy was one of the top students in his class, but had a history of violence, including slapping a female student and assaulting his own father.
