CIB deputy commissioner petitions over alleged unfair police reshuffle

Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said he will look into a petition, filed by a deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), seeking justice over, what he considers to be, unfair treatment in this year’s police reshuffle.

Maj Gen Jaroonkiat Pankaew submitted the petition to Phumtham in his capacity as chairman of the Police Commission.

Phumtham told reporters today that he would forward the petition to the appropriate body for further consideration, adding “I have already had a telephone conversation with Maj Gen Jaroonkiat and I understand the matter.”

In the petition, Jaroonkiat alleges that the appointment process overlooked qualifications and capabilities, with some officers promoted despite having no supporting performance record.

He claims that he and other police officers, who have successfully solved many cases, were excluded from the process.

The petition initially went viral online and, when reporters subsequently contacted the CIB’s deputy commissioner, he admitted that he had indeed submitted the petition to Phumtham.

He argued that he was also entitled to consideration under the regulations. He claimed that he had led dozens of major national-level criminal cases, consistently producing results, yet his work had not been recognised. He added that several other hardworking officers have also been overlooked.
