HM the King revokes royal command appointing 81 senior monks
His Majesty the King has issued a royal command cancelling earlier announcements, which had granted ecclesiastical titles to senior monks, according to the Royal Gazette yesterday.
A total of 81 monks were to receive monastic titles under the June 22 royal commands issued in celebration of His Majesty’s birthday on July 28.
However, His Majesty has now expressed concern following media reports about several monks whose conduct was deemed inappropriate for the monastic order, as well as some senior monks (Phra Racha Khana) who were found to have violated the monastic code.
These incidents have caused significant emotional distress among the Buddhists.
Therefore, His Majesty has issued a royal command to revoke the previously announced appointments.
