Thai guide drowns, 16 foreign tourists rescued from reservoir in Surat Thani
A tour guide drowned, but 16 foreign tourists were safely rescued after their tour boat capsized in Chiew Lan Reservoir in the southern province of Surat Thani today.
According to officials from Khao Sok National Park, the group of tourists, including five Belgian and 11 Dutch nationals, accompanied by a female Thai tour guide, were cruising on the reservoir.
As the boat was near Chong Khao, it was suddenly hit by a strong wind, causing it to capsize. Boats nearby rushed to their rescue and managed to pull all the tourists and the boat’s driver out of the cold water. They were unable to save the guide, however, who was later plucked from the water and taken to a nearby hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival.
