The country plans to submit the evidence to the convention on Friday, officials announced.
Rear Admiral Surasan Kongsiri, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, stated that a Royal Thai Navy team discovered crucial evidence on a Cambodian soldier’s mobile phone, confirming Cambodian military personnel used PMN-2 anti-personnel landmines in the Phumakhuea area.
The discovery was made on August 19, 2025, by a naval humanitarian demining unit working to clear explosives in the area of Sisaket province. The team found a mobile phone left behind by a Cambodian soldier and, upon inspection, discovered videos and photos explicitly showing soldiers holding PMN-2 landmines.
The phone also contained a voice recording in the Khmer language, which demonstrated how to use the landmine before it was planted along the border.
The evidence includes timestamps and locations, which officials say will serve as irrefutable proof of the violation.
The military has forwarded the findings to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be presented at the upcoming Ottawa Convention meeting on Friday, August 22. -819 (TNA)
