People’s party still undecided on PM choice, says Natthaphong
People's party leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut said today that he is unsure whether the party will reach a decision today over supporting the Pheu Thai or Bhumjaithai prime ministerial candidates in the House of Representatives.
He did, however, offer his assurance that they will have an answer before the vote is expected towards the end of this week.
He said that an extensive debate on the matter will be held this afternoon covering all aspects, including feedback from the public gathered by their constituency MPs last week.
A party-list MP, Natthawut Buaprathum, meanwhile, noted that the People's party will not bid to form a new government, because it does not have a candidate for prime minister.
Pita Limjaroenrat was the party’s only prime ministerial candidate during the general election campaign in 2023, when it was called the Move Forward party. The Move Forward party was dissolved by order of the Constitutional Court in August 2024 and the entire executive board, including Pita and party leader Chaithawat Tulathon, were banned from politics for ten years.
Meanwhile, Caretaker Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai says that the People's party can spend as much time as it needs to consider their decision, but suggested they inform Pheu Thai as soon as they have done so.
He also said that, for the time being, all the coalition parties, including the Democrats, are part of the interim government.
