Bangkok's Michelin-starred Jay Fai fined over Bt4,000 omelette
The Michelin-starred Raan Jay Fai restaurant, famous for its crabmeat omelette, was fined 2,000 baht by the Internal Trade Department for not displaying the price of a “special” crabmeat omelette, in violation of the Goods and Service Prices Act.
Officials from the Office of the Consumers Protection Board (OCPB), the Internal Trade Department and Central Investigation Bureau visited the restaurant in Bangkok today, to follow up on a complaint, which claimed that an influencer and two friends ordered the signature dish, crabmeat omelette, which was priced at 1,500 baht on the menu.
When the bill arrived, however, they realised that they were being charged 4,000 baht for the dish. The restaurant claimed that their dish was” special”, but that the price was not displayed on the menu. The influencer claimed she didn’t order a “special” dish, but paid the bill anyway.

The incident was posted on social media and it went viral, attracting mixed reactions. The influencer returned to the restaurant the next day to settle the case and the restaurant offered to return the overcharged amount, but the influencer declined.
Anupong Charoenwech, director of Consumer Protection Division 2 of the OCPB, said that the office did not receive the complaint directly from the influencer, but from her friends. He added that she did not want compensation from the restaurant.
