Consumers advised not to buy cheap supplements and skincare products online
Consumers are being advised to exercise caution when buying cheap food supplements and skincare products through online platforms, as well as from some retail outlets, due to the proliferation of fake products.
Director-General of the Intellectual Property Department, Nusara Kanchanakul, disclosed today that officials from the department and police from the Economic Crime Suppression Division had seized more than 700,000 fake food supplements and skincare creams, as part of 1.3 million fake products, including automobile parts, brand name leather products and decorative accessories, seized in the past six months.
She said that many suspects have been arrested in 139 cases, adding that the fake products, particularly brand name fashion items, are also available in some shopping malls, catering to foreign tourists in Bangkok.
She advised consumers to be selective and not to buy food supplements or skincare products simply because they are cheap, warning that they are sub-standard and may lead to health problems.
