Bhumjaithai open to People’s party terms for PM support
The Bhumjaithai Party has agreed to consider the conditions set by the People party, which has stated that it would support a new prime minister only if he or she promises to dissolve the House within four months.
Boonthida Somchai, spokeswoman for the Bhumjaithai party, said today that her party leader, Anutin Charnvirakul, Secretary-General Chaichanok Chidchob and core member Paradorn Prissananantakul have visited the People party to discuss the matter.
The race to form a new government began just hours after Paetongtarn Shinawatra was ousted by the court, following her controversial conversation with Cambodia’s Hun Sen.
People party leader Natthapong Ruengpanyawut stated that all MPs from his party are ready to support a prime ministerial candidate, but on the condition that they dissolve the House of Representatives within four months of presenting their policy statement to Parliament and hold a general election.
The new Cabinet must also organise a referendum on constitutional amendments, to pave the way for the drafting of an entirely new charter through a constituent assembly, elected as soon as possible, but no later than the day before the general election.
Natthapong said his party will not join the government and will continue in opposition, fully scrutinising the new administration.
No member of the People party will serve as a minister in the Cabinet.
