Chinese company Rokid launches in-store payment feature for AR glasses
HANGZHOU, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese augmented reality technology provider Rokid has recently announced the integration of in-store payment functionality into its smart glasses, Rokid Glasses, in collaboration with Alipay, enabling users to make purchases using voice and gesture commands without needing to handle a phone.
The payment process is highly convenient as users can simply say a command like "Rokid, pay 10 yuan (about 1.4 U.S. dollars)," prompting the glasses to automatically scan the Alipay QR code and wait for verbal confirmation, with payment details displayed directly on the lenses for a quick and hands-free experience.
The payment system is supported by Alipay's multidimensional risk control system to ensure the security of each transaction and to protect users from potential fraud, with a commitment to compensating for any unauthorized payments.
Rokid's founder and CEO, Zhu Mingming, emphasized that this innovation is not just a change in payment methods but a redefinition of human-computer interaction. The introduction of payment functionality in Rokid Glasses is expected to "set a new benchmark" for the smart glasses industry and enhance user experience.
According to Zhang Aijuan, vice president of Ant Group and rotating president of the digital payment business group, future collaborations between Rokid and Alipay are expected to expand into more convenient services, such as quick payments for parking fees, utility bills and ride-hailing, as well as voice-activated ordering and purchase reminders.
Designed for all-day wear and weighing just 49 grams, Rokid Glasses has already garnered over 250,000 orders globally, with deliveries scheduled to begin at the end of June. ■
