Langkawi lends its tropical splendour to the global launch of Dior's Diorexquis Chapter 2 high jewellery collection
After the stunning launch of Chapter 1 of Dior’s Diorexquis high jewellery collection in the South of France this May, it was the Four Seasons Resort Langkawi’s turn to play host to a similar such convergence of haute joaillerie devotees.
From November 6 to 13, the Malaysian island became the surprising stage for the global launch of Diorexquis Chapter 2—a high jewellery collection that demanded to be seen against a backdrop of sea, sky and primary rainforest. Victoire de Castellane, artistic director of Dior Joaillerie since 1999, has long drawn from nature's lexicon. Here, her source material existed just beyond the Imperial Villa's windows.

Fifty-four pieces comprised this second chapter, each built around three themes rooted in Christian Dior's own obsessions: enchanting landscapes, delicate bouquets, and the splendour of grand balls. The founding couturier's love affair with gardens and festivities has been well documented, and this collection brings the beauty of gardens, flowers and landscapes to the forefront with exceptional savour faire treatment.

What distinguished this collection was the technical ambition underpinning the romance. Opal doublets revealed iridescent depths. Plique-à-jour—a lacquering technique that creates translucent, stained-glass effects—lent an almost architectural quality to certain pieces. The result is a exceptional heirloom-worthy piece that casts colourful shadows across the skin.
These were not exercises in pretty craftsmanship but assertions of what the ateliers could achieve when technique served genuine creative vision.
Some pieces are created with detachable parts, allowing them to be worn as necklaces or as a broach, depending on the wearer’s fancy. Modularity in jewellery was a particular passion of Victoire de Castellane, as were gradients of vibrant colour, owing to her previous role as a colourist.
Clients arrived from distant time zones to view the High Jewellery pieces first-hand
The collection made its global debut in Langkawi before travelling elsewhere—a decision that spoke to Malaysia's growing significance within luxury's new geography. Clients arrived from distant time zones to view the pieces first-hand, a testament to the enduring appeal of physical encounter in an increasingly digitised market.
The Four Seasons Resort Langkawi was properly furnished to celebrate this milestone in true Dior style. Poolside cabanas, lounge chairs and even resort buggies were decked out in Dior’s signature Dioriviera print, ensuring the luxury beachfront resort was truly fully prepared to celebrate the occasion in style.

Light projections in the Welcome Pavilion of the Four Seasons Resort Langkawi made the hall feel like an an extension of Langkawi's surrounding jungles and mountain ranges
The evening of November 8 brought a gala dinner at the resort, where light projections transformed the Welcome Pavilion of the resort into an extension of Langkawi's surrounding jungles and mountain ranges.
The effect was immersive without tipping into theatre. One ate surrounded by digital rainforest, a curiously apt metaphor for how luxury now operates—nature refracted through human ingenuity, beauty made more beautiful through intervention.

Dior’s High Timepieces also received the spotlight treatment this weekend. A highlight was the La D de Dior Buisson Couture, which had recently claimed the Jewellery Watch award at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève on November 13.
The rose gold dial, entirely stone-set and layered with rubies, pink sapphires, diamonds and tsavorite garnets, demonstrated how watchmaking and joaillerie could collapse into a single discipline. Even the case back bore floral motifs—a private flourish for the wearer alone.

Langkawi offered what Paris could not: permission to consider these pieces against the natural world that inspired them. The island's humid air, its impossible greenery, made the collection's botanical preoccupations feel less like metaphor and more like correspondence.
