80th session of UN General Assembly opens at UN headquarters in New York

The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) was declared open by Annalena Baerbock, the new president of the General Assembly, at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday afternoon.

The theme of the 80th session of the UNGA, which marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, is "Better Together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights."

Macron nominates Sebastien Lecornu as new French PM

French President Emmanuel Macron nominated Sebastien Lecornu as the new prime minister on Tuesday.

The 39-year-old, who has served as the defense minister for over three years, is a close associate of Macron, local media reported.

Lecornu will be tasked with consulting political parties to "build the necessary agreements for decisions in the coming months," according to the Elysee.

Apple unveils new iPhones, wireless earphone products

Apple Inc. on Tuesday announced a series of new iPhones and wireless earphone products, including iPhone 17, all-new iPhone Air and AirPods Pro 3.

The iPhone 17 features the new Center Stage front camera, 48 megapixel (MP) Fusion Main camera, and 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, with a 6.3-inch (16 centimeters) Super Retina XDR display, said the company.

China seeks to further boost the sports industry with continued government support in terms of planning, construction and funding over the next five years, as it sees this burgeoning sector as a new driver for economic growth.

According to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's top economic planner, promoting the development of the sports industry and outdoor sports will feature in the nation's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) and other specific development plans.■
