BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday expressed deep concern over the escalating situation in the Middle East, urging relevant parties, especially Israel, to make more positive efforts to resume negotiations.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to a relevant query.

"China is deeply concerned about the escalating situation in the Middle East," said Lin, stressing that China opposes actions that violate the sovereignty and security of relevant countries in the region.

China condemns all actions that harm innocent civilians and opposes any move that exacerbates tensions and could further escalate the regional situation, Lin said.

"Violence cannot bring security, and the use of force will not lead to peace," he said.

Lin added that China strongly urges all relevant parties, especially Israel, to make more positive efforts to cease fire, restart negotiations and restore peace and stability in the region, rather than doing the opposite. ■
