Chinese shares close higher Thursday
BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.65 percent to 3,875.31 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.36 percent higher at 12,979.89 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 2.44 trillion yuan (about 343.5 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.98 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks from the glass, appliance, and electronic information industries led the gains, while oil and tourism shares saw declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 5.15 percent to close at 3,053.75 points. ■
