Chinese women's volleyball coach Zhao Yong promises exciting matches in Hong Kong

HONG KONG, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Zhao Yong, head coach of the Chinese women's national volleyball team, said Tuesday that China aims to deliver "exciting matches" at the Nations League.

The Hong Kong, China leg of the tournament, set to begin at the new Kai Tak Arena, features the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Thailand and Japan. China opens its campaign Wednesday night against the Czech Republic.

At a press conference held at the team's hotel, Zhao emphasized the importance of focusing on every element of play. "For the four matches in Hong Kong, we will take every ball seriously, earn every point, and approach each set with dedication. Every moment matters."

Reflecting on the team's performance in the Beijing leg, where China recorded two wins and two losses, Zhao - who took over as head coach just two months ago - said, "There were surprises, but also areas for improvement. Overall, the young players have been tested in competition and have gained valuable experience."

Captains from the participating teams also attended the press event. Chinese captain Gong Xiangyu noted the energy displayed by younger teammates during the Beijing matches: "They were very spirited on the court and truly enjoyed the game. Their passion inspired me as well."

Gong, an Olympic gold medalist at Rio 2016 who has signed with the U.S.-based League One Volleyball (LOVB) for the upcoming season, expressed excitement about the new facility after competing in Hong Kong, China multiple times at the former Hong Kong Coliseum. She praised the arena's modern design and lighting.

"I look forward to playing in Hong Kong every year. The fans here are incredibly supportive. Our four opponents this week are all strong, and we should enjoy every match." ■
