Lim + Lu Completes Yung’s Bistro at Taikoo Place

The new Yung’s Bistro at Two Taikoo Place carries forward the legacy of the iconic Yung Kee restaurant, renowned for its roasted goose since 1942.

Yung’s Bistro, a younger offshoot of Yung Kee, commissioned Lim + Lu to create a 2,000-square-foot space that reimagines the diner’s 83-year-old heritage with a contemporary twist. The brief was clear: each iteration of Yung’s Bistro should be a unique entity, celebrating individuality within a shared lineage.

Lim + Lu delivered a design that feels both nostalgic and bold, with dusty rose tones woven into textured plaster, bespoke tiles, and upholstery.

Part of the walls feature original Yung Kee tiles from 1978, now repurposed as rosy, textured mosaics that honor the restaurant’s storied past. At the heart of the design, two expansive custom Lalacurio wallpapers, hand-painted with whimsical scenes of geese, add a playful yet sophisticated tribute to Yung Kee’s celebrated culinary heritage.

The original space was divided into two floor levels. Lim + Lu addressed this with a seamless ramp that connects the kitchen and front-of-house areas to ensure operational efficiency without compromising elegance.

Flexibility is also key. Movable panels, upholstered in sage green vinyl leather, allow the space to transform when needed. These panels can divide the dining area into three private VIP rooms or open up into a spacious dining hall. When not in use, the panels are discreetly tucked away behind custom Lalacurio wallpapered doors.

Adjacent to the central bar is a cozy lounge area where whimsical banquettes line the walls. Outdoors, the al fresco area features black-and-white rattan furniture, lending a chic, timeless appeal.
