China's top legislator meets with participants of Seminar for Representatives from Pacific Island Countries

BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Zhao Leji, chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, met with participants of the Seminar for Representatives from Pacific Island Countries in Beijing on Tuesday.

Zhao noted that China's relations with Pacific island countries have maintained good development momentum, and said that China has always been a trustworthy friend and reliable partner to these countries.

China is willing to work with Pacific island countries to enhance political mutual trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, and implement the four major global initiatives, Zhao said.

He called on both sides to strengthen communication across multiple levels and fields among legislative bodies, and to deepen their exchange of experience in governance, legislation and supervision, providing legal guarantees for bilateral cooperation.

Representatives of the participating nations said that Pacific island countries adhere to the one-China principle, support the four major global initiatives, and are willing to work with China to promote the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity.

They said that the legislative bodies of Pacific island countries are willing to enhance exchange and cooperation with the NPC of China to promote the development of bilateral relations. ■
