Many areas across Japan observe "extremely hot day"
TOKYO, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Temperatures jumped in many areas across Japan on Monday, constituting an "extremely hot day" where the mercury rises above 35 degrees Celsius, according to the weather agency.
As of 4 p.m. local time, 22 locations nationwide reported scorching hot temperatures of over 35 degrees Celsius, the highest this year, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.
In the city of Saijo, Ehime prefecture, the temperature reached 36.5 degrees Celsius, while 36.2 degrees Celsius was logged in Ayakawa, Kagawa prefecture, as well as Mima, Tokushima prefecture, and Tokushima City.
Meanwhile, another 415 locations recorded temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius, typically seen in the middle of summer, the JMA added.
Central Tokyo observed its hottest temperature so far this year, with a peak of 31.6 degrees Celsius at 12:45 p.m. local time. ■
