Top political advisor urges CPPCC to increase capacity for research, consultation
BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Wang Huning on Friday urged members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) to increase their capacity for research and investigation, as well as their capacity for consultation.
Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, made the remarks when presiding over a meeting of the Chairpersons Council of the CPPCC National Committee.
Wang called on political advisors to remain committed to their ideals and convictions, abide steadfastly by the Party's rules of conduct, and pursue a pragmatic approach to their work.
He called for efforts to guide religions in adapting to socialist society, and to rally people of all ethnic groups and religious beliefs to strengthen how they identify with the country, the Chinese nation, the Chinese culture, the Party, and socialism with Chinese characteristics.
He also stressed the importance of leveraging the strengths of the CPPCC to promote public and people-to-people diplomacy.
The meeting discussed and adopted the draft agenda and schedule of the 13th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, which will be convened in Beijing in late August. ■
