Google Maps move of Ta Muen Thom temple not binding - Thai army
Army spokesman Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree insists that the recent repositioning of the location marker for Prasat Ta Muen Thom on Google Maps, from Surin province in Thailand to Cambodia, is not legally binding.
Thai netizens expressed concern after noticing the change and the altered borderline on the application.
Some are concerned that the map data could be used as false evidence to mislead international media or be cited in legal for a, such as the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Winthai emphasised that platforms like Google Earth and Google Maps use data from private entities for general navigation purposes which often contain discrepancies, especially regarding unofficial or disputed borders.
“This app data holds no legal weight, either domestically or internationally. Users can report map errors to the company for correction,” he said.
