The Bhumjaithai party announced today that it now has 146 MPs supporting Anutin Charnvirakul’s candidature as the next prime minister, as well as the promised support from the People’s party’s 143.
The Bhumjaithai coalition comprises 68 Bhumjaithai MPs, 31 MPs from the Kla Tham party, which broke away from the coalition government, the Palang Pracharath party’s 17 MPs, 16 renegade MPs from the United Thai Nation party, 8 defectors from Pheu Thai, three MPs from the Thai Srang Thai party and 3 defectors from the Democrat party.
The Fair party, which has only one MP, has also pledged support for Anutin, claims the Bhumjaithai party.
Bhumjaithai party leader Anutin thanked the People’s party for its support, on behalf of his coalition, as he promised to deliver on the People’s party’s preconditions.
The House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha has been urged today to call a special parliamentary sitting immediately, to vote for a new prime minister.
In an urgent letter, addressed to the House Speaker, the Bhumjaithai party noted that, since Paetongtarn Shinawatra was removed from the office retroactively on July 1st, and her government was also ousted automatically in accordance with the Constitution, there is an urgent need for Thailand to have a new prime minister and a new Cabinet to address the country’s pressing problems, be they economic, social or national security.
