At 09:15 hrs today, Sgt. Teerapon Phiakhantee of Ranger Company 2610 stepped on a landmine near Border Marker R51, well inside Thai territory — a location patrolled daily by the unit.

R51 stands as undeniable proof that the blast occurred within Thailand’s sovereign territory.This is an act of barbaric cruelty and a grave violation of international humanitarian law.

We demand more than condemnation. The international community must:

• Pressure the perpetrators to be held accountable.
