Second Thai hospital hit by Cambodian artillery
A subdistrict hospital in the northeastern border province of Si Sa Ket was struck by artillery fire from Cambodian forces engaged in clashes with Thai troops on Saturday.
The damage to Ban Sum Meng Subdistrict Hospital in Kantharalak District is estimated at about 1 million baht. However, officers have been unable to enter the premises due to safety concerns.
No injuries were reported. Residents in the surrounding area were evacuated to shelters and bunkers.
The incident occurred at around 3.30am on the third day of the ongoing clashes. Gunfire and artillery shelling had been heard since 10am.
Si Sa Ket is one of four northeastern Thai provinces targeted by Cambodian forces since Thursday. On that day, cross-border artillery shells struck a convenience store at a petrol station, killing eight people, including an 8-year-old boy.
This hospital was the second to be struck by artillery shells from Cambodian forces, following the attack on Phanom Dongrak Hospital in Surin province, which sustained structural damage.
