Thailand controls 11 areas contested by Cambodia, including Ta Muen Thom
After five days of intense fighting between Thai and Cambodian forces, which began on July 24 and ended when a ceasefire came into effect at midnight on July 28, Thailand has seized full control of 11 border areas contested by Cambodia, including Ta Muen Thom temple.
According to Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, deputy spokesperson for the Thai armed forces, the areas include:
· Phu Makua
· Chong An Ma
· The Ta Muen Thom ancient temple
· Ta Kwai ancient temple
· The Chong Bok pass
· Don Tual ancient temple
· Sattasom
· The Chong Chom pass
· The Chong Sai Taku pass
· Plai Yao
· an area adjacent to Preah Vihear hill
He also disclosed that a total of 188,729 Thai people were displaced during the five-day battle, 15 civilians were killed and 53 others injured, including 12 seriously.
Twenty hospitals along the border between the two countries were damaged, including 13 which have been closed. The rest are still functioning, but only partially.
