Three districts in Si Sa Ket declared public disaster zones today
The Si Sa Ket provincial administration has declared Kantharalak, Phu Singh and Khun Han districts to be public disaster zones, as a direct result of the ongoing armed dispute between Thailand and Cambodia.
The designation will facilitate the provincial administration in the dispensing of funding to help people affected by the fighting.
Currently, more than 300,000 people living in 498 villagers in the three districts are being affected, many of them have been evacuated from their homes and are living in shelters.
Public disaster zones were declared yesterday in Bua Chet, Sangkha, Karb Choeng and Phanom Dongrak districts of neighbouring Surin province, following heavy exchanges of fire between Thai and Cambodian forces at the Ta Muen Thom ancient temple in Phanom Dongrak district.
Dozens of artillery shells and rockets have landed on non-military areas in the two provinces during the intense fighting.
