Air strikes against Cambodian artillery and rocket launchers at temple ruins
The Royal Thai Air Force sent two Gripen and two F-16 fighter jets to perform surgical strikes on Cambodian artillery and rocket installations today, at Ta Kwai and Ta Muen Thom ancient temples Surin province.
Also today, the Second Army Region issued a warning to people living in several north-eastern provinces of the threat of Cambodia’s PHL-03 long-range rockets, but said that they should not panic.
The army said that Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Si Sa Ket, Buri Ram, Maha Chanachai and Kor Wang districts of Yasothon, as well as several districts of Maha Sarakham and Nakhon Ratchasima are within the range of the PHL-03 multiple rocket launching system.
It asked people in those provinces to keep abreast of the latest official information.
Colonel Richa Suksuvanon, the Army deputy spokesperson, said, however, that the army has air defence systems to cope with the rockets and told the people not to be overly concerned.
Fierce fighting between Thai and Cambodian forces has continued for a fourth day today, without any clear sign as to when it will end.
