Worst flooding in Lom Sak district of Phetchabun in over a decade

Lom Sak district of Phetchabun is facing the worst flooding in 14 years, due to heavy rain compounded by the Pasak River being swollen by northern runoffs, causing it to overflow.

District chief officer of Lom Sak, Parkpoom Phumi, said today that more than 7,000 households in 50 villages are flooded, with the depth of floodwater in the Lom Sak municipal area measured at nearly a metre with strong currents.

Many cars in the municipal area are inundated, because the water level rose too quickly for their owners to move them to higher ground in time.

Meanwhile, in Wang Thong, Noen Maprang and Bang Krathum districts of neighbouring Phitsanuloke province, officials say that flooding remains critical today, with the Khek River overflowing into farmland and communities.

Volunteers have moved numerous bed-ridden people from the ground floors of their flooded houses to the second floors.

The sandbag floodwall along the Wang Thong River gave way in three places, allowing water to pour into five villages, before volunteers and villagers managed to plug the holes.

The city administration has distributed thousands more sandbags to many households for their protection.
