Thaksin, 75, arrived at the court amidst a significant media presence. Before he slipped past the media scrum into the courtroom, his lawyer, Winyat Chartmontree, confirmed Thaksin’s intent to attend all hearings in the case, which alleges violations of Article 112 of the Criminal Code (Lèse-Majesté) and the Computer Crime Act. Thaksin has pleaded not guilty and is out on bail.
The court has scheduled prosecution witness examinations for three consecutive days (July 1-3), with the defense planning to challenge the credibility of the “audio clip” central to the charges. The proceedings are being held privately, with court officials restricting details.
Former Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat was present at the court to show support. Thaksin departed the court around midday with his daughter, Pintongta Shinawatra Kunakornwong.
Winyat stated Thaksin remained calm and was not stressed, emphasizing his client’s commitment to personally attend all scheduled hearings. -819 (TNA)
