其實，Kerr準備離開勇士陣營已不是新聞，季初他便未與球隊續約，而是準備等到賽季結束後再評估，國外媒體報導指出，Kerr是因為與勇士球團的未來發展方向意見分歧，才會選擇不繼續留任，而本季勇士僅在例行賽拿下37勝45負成績，並於附加賽止步，似乎更堅定了Kerr離隊的決心。
