IMF upgrades Malaysia's growth forecasts for 2025, 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday upgraded Malaysia's economic growth projections for 2025 and 2026.
The IMF said in its latest World Economic Outlook report that it now projects Malaysia's real gross domestic product (GDP) to grow by 4.5 percent and 4 percent in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
The growth forecasts were revised upward by 0.4 percentage point and 0.2 percentage point from its earlier estimates in April.
Malaysia's economy grew by 3.5 percent and 5.1 percent year-on-year in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
The upward projections were in tandem with the IMF's higher global growth forecasts.
"This reflects stronger-than-expected front-loading in anticipation of higher tariffs; lower average effective U.S. tariff rates than announced in April; an improvement in financial conditions, including due to a weaker U.S. dollar; and fiscal expansion in some major jurisdictions," the IMF noted.■
