Japan logs dangerous heat of 40 degrees Celsius for 3rd day
TOKYO, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Japan recorded dangerous heat of over 40 degrees Celsius for the third straight day on Friday, according to the country's weather agency.
The mercury soared to 40.4 degrees in the city of Kuwana in the western prefecture of Mie, the latest to hit the mark, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.
Dangerous levels of heat were logged from Tokai in central Japan to Kyushu in the west, with heatstroke alerts having been issued for 32 of Japan's 47 prefectures, the JMA added.
Temperatures on Friday also reached 39.3 degrees in Nishiwaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, 39.2 degrees in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, 39.1 degrees in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, and 39 degrees in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture.
Weather officials urged people to keep cool by using air conditioners, consuming adequate fluids and salt, and taking frequent breaks during outdoor activities.■
