Thai Soldiers Injured by Landmine Near Thai-Cambodian Border
UBON RATCHATHANI, July 17 (TNA) – Three Thai soldiers were injured yesterday when a landmine exploded during a border patrol, officials said.
One soldier required a leg amputation. The regional army commander visited the wounded.
Lt Gen Boonsin Padklang, commander of the 2nd Army Region, visited the injured troops from the 6th Infantry Regiment at Sapphasithiprasong Military Hospital. All three are stable:
Sgt Patipat Srilasak and Pvt Nattawut Srikhem suffered chest contusions, while Pvt Tanapat Huiwan’s left leg was amputated below the knee.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon as a 14-member patrol moved from the Morakot base.
Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, acting as prime minister, said he had received reports of the injuries but had not yet confirmed whether the landmine was old or newly laid. He confirmed an investigation is underway. -819 (TNA)
