Democrats undecided on joining coalition talks - Chalermchai
Democrat party leader Chalermchai Srion said Sunday night that they have not yet decided to partner with the Pheu Thai party in the formation of a new government coalition.
He made the statement after a meeting of the executive committee, which assigned him to represent the party in talks on the matter.
He said that, for the time being, the Democrats are waiting until the dust has settled, before making a decision whether to join any particular coalition.
The party’s secretary general, Det-it Khaothong, attended the meeting between key members of the Pheu Thai party, led by Caretaker Prime Minister
Phumtham Wechayachai, and the People party’s leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, at the People party’s head office on Sunday afternoon.
Chalermchai said that it is not for Det-it to get involved in the Pheu Thai party’s bid to woo support from the People’s party for its prime ministerial candidate, Chaikasem Nitisiri, adding that Det-it did not represent the Democrat party.
He disclosed that the party has not yet been approached by either the Pheu Thai or Bhumjaithai parties to join the attempt to form the next government.
Both the Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai parties have been wooing support from the People party in their own bids to become the core party in the next coalition government.
