Pheu Thai, People's Party set afternoon meeting after terms accepted
Desperate for support from the opposition People's Party for its prime ministerial candidate and the formation of a new government, the ruling Pheu Thai party has agreed to accept the preconditions set for such support.
The Pheu Thai, represented by Secretary-General Sorawong Thienthong and deputy party leader Jiraporn Sindhuprai, is scheduled to meet with the People's Party at the latter’s head office at 2pm this afternoon.
In a statement, released on the Pheu Thai party’s website today, the party agreed to People’s Party’s terms and has made an additional proposal.
The statement said that a new government, led by the Pheu Thai, would dissolve the House within four months of the delivery of the policy statement in parliament by the new prime minister.
Additionally, the new government may dissolve the House sooner if all the procedures, terms and condition are fulfilled ahead of time.
The government will hold a referendum regarding constitutional amendments, by asking voters whether they agree with the drafting of a new charter being based on the 1997 Constitution, said the statement, adding that the government will also ask voters whether they want to retain or revoke MOU 43 and MOU 44, to put an end to conflict over these two documents between Thailand and Cambodia.
In the same statement, the government undertook to cooperate with the People's Party in resolving the Khao Kradong land controversy in Buri Ram province, and the Senate election collusion case, both according to the letter of the law.
The Bhumjaithai party had already said that it agrees with the People's Party’s conditions.
Both the Bhumjaithai and Pheu Thai parties are wooing support from the People's Party for their prime ministerial candidacies, the winner of which will be decided by voting in the House of Representatives.
