Incident Report on the Thai-Cambodian Border Clash 31 July 2025
According to the report from the 2nd Army Area Operations Center, key developments along the Thai-Cambodian border are summarized as follows:
Cambodian Troop Reinforcements: Detected increased force deployment and strengthening of defensive positions by Cambodian troops along the Thai–Cambodian border.
Unidentified UAV Activity: Multiple sightings of unmanned aerial vehicles (unknown origin/type) conducting reconnaissance over Thai military positions in several areas, including
- Chong Ahn Ma (Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani)
- Phu Makua
- Satta Som, Prasat Don Tuan
- Phu Phi (Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province)
- Chong Chom (Kap Choeng District, Surin Province)
- Chong Sai Taku (Ban Kruat District, Buriram Province)
Cambodian Detainees: Twenty Cambodian soldiers who surrendered in the Chong Sam Tae area were taken into custody and are facing legal proceedings for illegal entry into Thai territory. Two injured soldiers have been transferred to Weerawat Yothin Camp Hospital, Surin Province, for medical treatment.
Troop Deployment at Ta Kwai Temple Vicinity: Thai forces have observed suspected PMN-2 anti-personnel mines laid around the Ta Kwai Temple compound, formerly a shared resting and tourist area between the two countries. This action constitutes a violation of the Ottawa Convention on the prohibition of anti-personnel mines. Additionally, the occupation of a historical site for military purposes breaches other international conventions.
Royal Thai Army Situation Report: Ta Kwai Temple Vicinity (31 July 2025)
Major General Winthai Suvaree, Army Spokesperson, stated that while Thai forces have not yet established full control of Ta Kwai Temple itself, operational control over the surrounding high ground has been expanded in line with military objectives. Securing these elevated positions is of greater strategic value than the temple itself, which is located in lower terrain.
The key strategic point remains “Hill 350,” which the opposing force has been using as a firing position. Access to this area is critical but time-constrained and obstructed by minefields. Second Lieutenant Kiatwong Sataworn sustained severe injuries from a mine explosion, affecting the final phase of the planned advance. With the current ceasefire in effect, no further offensive maneuvers are being conducted.
