Min Buri pumping station construction suspended following accident
Bangkok’s Min Buri district office has ordered the temporary suspension of construction on a pumping station on Nimit Mai Road, pending an investigation, after its incomplete reinforcing steel framework collapsed last night, injuring 12 workers.
Sakchai Saisuk, the district director, said today that an initial inspection indicates that the likely cause of the collapse was the tilting of steel bars due to weak support walls.
The quality of the steel used in the project which is in Nimit Mai Soi 6 is unlikely to have been the cause, he added.
The injured Thai, Myanmar and Cambodian nationals are currently being treated at Nawamin 9 Hospital, he said.
The contractor will be initially be responsible for compensating the injured.
Meanwhile, Nisapat Wongphat, spokesperson for the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, claims that a preliminary inspection indicates that the collapse was not caused by flaws in the building’s structure or materials.
