Paris Fashion Week: Louis Vuitton’s women’s autumn-winter 2025 collection is full steam ahead
This may be hard to believe, but Louis Vuitton only entered the ready-to-wear game in 1998. Before artistic director Marc Jacobs changed the course of history, the French house was a leader in the luxury leather goods sector. For example, the now emblematic Keepall and Speedy bags were introduced in 1930s. However, it was the re-invention of the flat-topped trunk in the mid-19th century that really put the maison’s originator on the map.
It was 1850s Europe. Back then, trains were a revolutionary form of transport—and the late Louis Vuitton caught on to the trend early, beginning to create artisanal boxes for a growing audience of travellers and adventure seekers. Soon after, the skilled craftsmen ventured into the world of luxury trunks that would retain their style factor while withstanding the wear-and-tear of long railway journeys.
Fast forward to today, Louis Vuitton’s artistic director of womenswear Nicolas Ghesquière is here to remind us of the house's roots in travel and adventure. His women’s autumn-winter 2025 show takes place at L’Étoile du Nord, a secret 19th century-style train station set, located beside Paris’s busiest railway station, Gare du Nord.
The front row, emulating a train station waiting room, was occupied by a star-studded guest list that included Lisa, Gianna Jun, Karena Lam, Gingle Wang and Bollywood star Deepika Padukone. All eyes were on the lookout for Stray Kids sensation and global brand ambassador Felix. Turns out, he would make his another surprise appearance on the Louis Vuitton runway.

Celebrities from far and wide came together to board Nicolas Ghesquière’s train to the Louis Vuitton universe. Along with ambassadors Lisa, Gianna Jun and Emma Stone, Hong Kong-based actress Karena Lam, Taiwanese entertainer Gingle Wang and Bollywood star Deepika Padukone took their front-row seats in the waiting room of the train station set, which was illuminated by nostalgic railway station lamp posts.

Long gone are the days when people would wear their Sunday best to board a train or airplane. We can all attest: comfort during gruelling hours of travel is key.
It seems that Nicolas Ghesquière is also on our side, infusing elevated loungewear style designs into his women’s autumn-winter 2025 collection. Imagine sumptuous knitwear sets, roomy pyjamas-like trousers and long robes. Footwear also got a soft and slouchy upgrade. Case in point: boots and sandals with cozy faux fur and shearling touches.

What is travel without a sense of adventure? In the Louis Vuitton women’s autumn-winter 2025 collection, Ghesquière encourages us to venture into the great outdoors.
Along with functional rain jackets, the season was filled with other utilitarian silhouettes like trench coats and workwear-style jackets. The latter was also transformed into form-fitting dresses that juxtapose functional pockets and buttons with embellishments.
Durable footwear is also of the essence while travelling. Ghesquière’s proposal sees sneakers and hiking boots with elevated rubber soles.
A collaboration with Kraftwerk

The season also teased a surprising collaboration with the legendary German electro group Kraftwerk.
Tying in with the show’s railway travel theme, the cover art from the band’s iconic album Trans-Europe Express (1977) decorated a series of garments and leather goods. Ghesquière also displayed his continued penchant for post-modernism by embracing colourful and graphic 1970s-style prints across the season’s array of tailored ensembles with 1980s power shoulders.
Pack this for the road

Leather goods are no doubt a highlight of all Louis Vuitton collections. This season, Ghesquière presented an array of colourful travel-ready trunks and extra-roomy bags suited to fit all the things you need to hit the road.
Along with the house’s signature Keepall bag, the artistic director also debuted the new L’Express bag silhouette. Loyalists may be immediately reminded of the Express, the original name for iconic Louis Vuitton Speedy, marked by its distinctive rolled leather handles, engraved padlock and detachable strap. Will this new addition to the house’s iconic bag universe also make history? We’re calling it first.
