Introducing Tatler Best Hong Kong and Macau: The next chapter of the Tatler Dining Awards
When Tatler Dining first launched a printed guide on Hong Kong's 100 Best Restaurants in 1984, it was charting new territory. At the time, fine dining was largely confined to hotel dining rooms and private clubs, and most chefs stayed out of the spotlight, but over the next four decades, the scene transformed. Restaurants became cultural markers, chefs became storytellers and Hong Kong, followed closely by Macau, emerged as global destinations for anyone who takes food seriously.
For 40 years, the Tatler Dining Awards have chronicled that rise. They’ve documented not only excellence, but change, through booms, reinventions and quiet revolutions in kitchens and behind bars. In 2024, the guide celebrated that 40-year legacy. Now, in 2025, it moves forward under a new name: Tatler Best.

Tatler Dining has spent four decades of documenting the region's dining scene
The change reflects a wider evolution in how we define hospitality. Great food and drink remain essential, but increasingly, they’re part of a bigger picture. The experience doesn’t begin with the menu or end with dessert. It includes the atmosphere, the service and the sense of being looked after from the moment you step through the door. That’s why, for the first time, Tatler Best recognises not just restaurants and bars, but hotels as well.
The Tatler Dining Awards 2024 winners
The awards are now presented in two formats:
- The Tatler Best 20 Restaurants and Tatler Best 20 Bars are curated, unranked lists that reflect the most relevant, exciting and influential places to eat and drink right now.
- The Best-in-Class awards honour standout achievements across key pillars of hospitality, spanning innovation, design, service and new openings, across restaurants, bars and hotels.
Winners are selected through a rigorous evaluation process involving over 200 reviews conducted by a panel of experts and tastemakers. The highest scorers receive the titles of Restaurant of the Year, Bar of the Year and Hotel of the Year. Meanwhile, the Best-in-Class awards are presented across the following categories including: Best New Restaurant, Best New Bar, Best New Hotel, Best Innovation, Rising Star, Best Sommelier, Best Pastry Chef, Best Service, Best Design, Best Boutique Hotel, Best City Hotel, Best Heritage Hotel, Best Original Concept and Best Wellness Retreat.
This year’s winners will be revealed at the Tatler Best Hong Kong and Macau awards ceremony, taking place on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Regent Hong Kong.
Winners at the Tatler Best of Asia event that was held in Bangkok in 2024
This is also the first year Tatler Best operates under a truly regional framework. Following the launch of the Tatler Best of Asia in Bangkok last year and a series of ongoing cross-city takeovers, the platform now spans six territories, with more to come. But it remains grounded in its original purpose: to spotlight the people and places that continue to redefine the standards of excellence, wherever they are.
