Summer Palace launches exquisite Mid-Autumn collection
Island Shangri-La marks the Mid-Autumn Festival with a refined tribute to tradition and taste in its 2025 collection, themed “Moonlit City, Heartfelt Shangri-La”. At the heart of this elegant offering is a collaboration with the hotel’s Cantonese restaurant, Summer Palace, where executive chef Leung Yu King brings his signature precision and reverence for heritage to the art of mooncake-making.
Guided by Leung’s exacting standards, Summer Palace presents mooncakes that are more than festive treats; they’re edible heirlooms, crafted using time-honoured methods and the highest quality ingredients. The result is a celebration of Cantonese culinary craftsmanship, thoughtfully packaged for modern gifting.
The classic series leads with a perennial favourite: white lotus seed paste with double egg yolks. Rich, velvety and satisfyingly savoury, this mooncake balances creamy lotus sweetness with the golden depth of salted yolk, a flavour combination that has stood the test of time. It’s a mooncake for the purist, made to stir memory as much as appetite.

Summer Palace Mini Mooncake Series
For those who prefer variety in elegant proportions, Summer Palace’s Mini Mooncake Series offers a playful yet sophisticated selection of bite-sized creations that reimagine tradition with flair. The Duo Nutty mooncakes are made with jujube paste with melon seeds, and fig with walnut, which deliver crunch and warmth in equal measure, each with a nostalgic, earthy sweetness.
Then there’s the Luna mochi collection: chewy, creamy pistachio mochi mooncakes and the richly layered taro and dark brown sugar version, each offering a textural contrast that feels modern yet rooted in heritage. For purists, the mini white lotus seed paste with egg yolk distils the classic into a delicate morsel, while the mini milk custard mooncakes melt with a soft, subtle sweetness. The real showstopper, however, is the deluxe molten lava milk custard mooncake, a golden orb that bursts with flowing custard at first bite, indulgent without being overbearing (eight pieces, HK$528).
Summer Palace Imperial Series
The Imperial Series lives up to its name with a sense of gravitas and grandeur. Leading the charge is the red bean paste with 60-year-aged tangerine peel, a rare, aromatic pairing that speaks to the beauty of time-honoured ingredients and restraint. For the ultimate centrepiece, the Seven-Star mooncakes place a majestic white lotus seed paste mooncake with six salted egg yolks at the centre, surrounded by a constellation of miniatures. Flavours range from classics like milk custard and red bean with tangerine peel, to contemporary renditions such as molten lava black sesame custard and pure green tea custard, each meticulously balanced and elegantly composed.
