Dining news: Anne-Sophie Pic returns to Cristal Room this June, three of Hong Kong’s top bars launch Häagen-Dazs cocktails, and more

Hong Kong’s dining scene continues to resist predictability, with chefs, bartenders and collaborators pushing beyond their usual lanes in favour of something more layered and unexpected. This week’s stories aren’t about flash, they’re about structure, intent and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing exactly what you want to say on the plate.

There’s experimentation in familiar formats, surprise in the most traditional rituals, and a growing trend of cross-disciplinary partnerships that challenge how and where flavour should be found. Whether it’s a rethink of the classics or a challenge to the rules of terroir, what’s clear is that Hong Kong isn’t just keeping pace—it’s setting it. And if the week’s menus are any indication, the line between indulgence and innovation is becoming deliciously thin.

Kinmedai with French beans, roasted with seaweed sabayon flavoured with fresh bay leaves and pink peppercorn

Our Tatler Best New Restaurant 2025 and Tatler Best 20 Restaurants in Hong Kong winner, Cristal Room by Anne-Sophie Pic, has unveiled its new seasonal menus just ahead of the acclaimed chef’s return to Hong Kong from June 25 to 27. Guests can expect refined summer creations across lunch, dinner and à la carte formats, including signature dishes such as les berlingots, pasta parcels filled with goat cheese in a chrysanthemum-laced tomato consommé, and charcoal-grilled kinmedai with seaweed-roasted French beans.

Highlights from the HK$2,280 six-course Voyage tasting menu include Hokkaido scallop carpaccio with smoked eel ice cream and Aveyron lamb with cherry blossom and seaweed tartlet. The restaurant, perched atop Forty-Five at Landmark, will also host meet-and-greet lunches with Anne-Sophie Pic on June 25, 26 and 27, and dinner on the 27.

A feast fit for the king of fruit, The Mira’s Taste of Malaysia brings unlimited durian, street food and cultural flair to its ballroom from July 15 to 17

The Mira Hong Kong is going all-in on the king of fruit this summer with Taste of Malaysia, a three-night durian-fuelled cultural festival from July 15 to 17. Held in the hotel’s 18th-floor ballroom, the event features unlimited servings of prized Malaysian durians, including Musang King, known for its rich, custardy flesh; XO D24, favoured for its sharp, boozy bitterness; and the rare Tupai King, a Penang-grown variety fetching top dollar for its complex flavour.

The buffet also showcases classic Malaysian street food such as char kway teow (wok-fried flat rice noodles with seafood), white curry noodles, and tempoyak ikan patin, catfish braised in fermented durian. Guests can also expect teh tarik (traditional pulled milk tea), cultural dance performances and a spread of durian desserts from choux puffs to pancakes. Tickets are HK$$788, with early bird and group discounts available via mira-eshop.com.

A tale of two terroirs

Two hemispheres, one bottle: Penfolds' Grange La Chapelle 2021 debuts in Hong Kong

Two hemispheres, one bottle: Penfolds' Grange La Chapelle 2021 debuts in Hong Kong

Penfolds has recently released Grange La Chapelle 2021 in Hong Kong, a bold Franco-Australian experiment uniting two of the world’s most celebrated wine estates. This inaugural vintage is a 50/50 blend of French Syrah from La Chapelle’s famed Hermitage slopes and Australian Shiraz from the historic vineyards behind Grange, including Barossa and McLaren Vale. The result is a wine that straddles hemispheres, combining the muscular structure of South Australia with the finesse of the Rhône. Only a tiny allocation is available locally, with bottles retailing at HK$17,500 via grangexlachapelle.com. Serious collectors, take note, this is a first-of-its-kind release that might just set the tone for cross-continental winemaking.

Le Wanderlust Voyage will run from June 10 to July 5, with two cocktails showcasing the ice cream

Häagen-Dazs is teaming up with three of Hong Kong’s most talked-about bars: Coa, Kinsman and The Opposites, all featured on the Tatler Best 20 Bars list 2025, for a limited-time Le Wanderlust Voyage menu running from June 10 to July 5. Inspired by their new European dessert flavours: tiramisu coffee, and mascarpone and churros dulce de leche and cinnamon, each bar has created two cocktails showcasing the ice cream in surprisingly refined ways.

At Coa, expect mezcal-spiked affogato and a churro-inspired cognac concoction; at Kinsman, things get playful with Cantonese rice wines and fried dough sticks; while The Opposites leans into creativity with a tiramisu foam-topped tequila blend and a cinnamon-spiced white negroni twist.

A purchase also earns you one of four exclusive illustrated postcards, and if you visit all three bars, you’ll unlock a half-price dessert at Häagen-Dazs shops.

Lobster Bar & Grill teams up with eight of Hong Kong’s top restaurants for a Sunday Roast guest chef series
