Met Gala 2025: From Alicia Keys to Jennie, the celebrities who understood the assignment
It’s the night every fashion lover looks forward to. On May 5, the Met Gala returned in full force, with our favourite celebrities and designers proving once again just how inventive fashion’s biggest stage can be.
Its dress code this year, Tailored for You, was inspired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Spring 2025 exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Inspired by Monica L Miller’s influential book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity (2009), the exhibition explores the legacy of the Black male dandy figure and his pivotal role in shaping Black identity since the 18th century.
Celebrities in attendance took this opportunity to pay tribute to the cultural significance of this theme. Madonna reinterpreted the modern dandy in Tom Ford, while Bad Bunny donned a pava hat, a nod to his Puerto Rican heritage, to name just a few. Here, Tatler has rounded up the standout fashion moments that made this year’s Met Gala one for the books.
