Thailand returns remains of 12 Cambodian soldiers to Cambodia today
The Thai army sent the bodies of 12 Cambodian soldiers, killed during fierce fighting at Phu Makua in Kantharalak district of Si Sa Ket, back to Cambodia today.
Colonel Richa Suksuvanon, deputy spokesperson for the Thai Army, said that repatriation of the fallen Cambodian soldiers is in compliance with international humanitarian principles and out of respect to soldiers who die on the battlefield, no matter to which side they belong.
The bodies were handed over to Cambodian officials at the Chong Sa-ngam border checkpoint, in Phu Singh district of Si Sa Ket province.
Thai troops have repulsed Cambodian attempts to seize Phu Makua and are now in full control of the strategic hilltop position.
Meanwhile, it is reported that one elderly Thai civilian was killed and another was injured this afternoon, when an artillery shell struck a house in Ban Nong Lek, in Kantharalak district of Si Sa Ket province.
The deceased has been identified as Somsri Larpboon.
