Thailand mulls criminal and civil litigation against Cambodia
Thailand is considering both criminal and civil litigation against Cambodia for allegedly starting the armed conflict in late July, which resulted in loss of life and property damage in Thailand.
Government Spokesman Jirayu Huangsap said today that Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai has instructed the Cabinet to consult relevant agencies, among them the National Security Council, the Council of State, the ministries of Interior and Public Health and the military, regarding the possibility of filing suits against Cambodia in Thai or international courts, to seek accountability for allegedly starting the armed conflict with Thailand, which lasted from July 24 to 28.
Fourteen Thai civilians and 15 soldiers were killed and over 200 were injured. Several hospitals, schools, shops and houses were also damaged by artillery shells and rockets, fired by Cambodian forces.
