Bangkok’s Flat 20-Baht Train Fare Set for Oct 1 Launch
BANGKOK, July 9 (TNA) – Thailand’s government is rolling out a flat 20-baht fare across all Bangkok electric train lines, effective October 1, 2025.
This move aims to significantly cut living costs and boost public transport ridership.
Government spokesman Jirayu Huangsab confirmed the cabinet’s approval, highlighting the plan as a key part of wider efforts to ease citizens’ financial burdens.
The “20-baht flat fare” is a high-priority initiative, expected to bring over 10 billion baht in benefits in its first year, including economic savings, social improvements, and environmental gains from reduced emissions.
To use the new fare, Thai nationals must register via the “Thang Rath” application. Registered users can then pay with credit cards, debit cards, or pre-registered Rabbit Cards.
The policy will cover 13 train lines, spanning nearly 280 kilometers and 194 stations. Registration opens in August 2025.
Jirayu noted that this initiative will make public transport more accessible, safe, and efficient, while also easing traffic and improving air quality. -819 (TNA)
